Early Life
Mona Tannous Pharaon is a Lebanese philanthropist, social figure, and former business executive whose life has been marked by humanitarian engagement and active participation in Lebanese civic life.
Born in 1959 in Syria, she grew up in a large family of five children. Her father was a prominent industrialist in the steel industry and was widely known as one of the leading figures in the sector. Following the nationalization period in Syria, the family relocated to Lebanon, where Mona spent part of her childhood.
During the early years of the Lebanese conflict, Mona moved to Paris, France, where she pursued her education.
Education & Early Career
Mona attended the Franciscan School in Lebanon and later continued her studies in business administration in Lubec Paris and ESAE. Although she initially had a strong interest in art, her father encouraged her to pursue business studies so she could gain experience in the family enterprise.
While living in France, she also worked at the Mediterranean Bank in Paris, gaining early professional experience.
Meeting Michel Pharaon
While studying in Paris, Mona met her future husband, Michel Pharaon. Both were part of the Lebanese student community in France during the years of the Lebanese civil war. After completing their studies, the couple married in Paris.
Business Experience
Before dedicating herself to family and social initiatives, Mona Pharaon worked within her family's steel industry operations. Her work included inspecting factory operations, supervising production activities, and monitoring employee performance. She often emphasized that she worked seriously within the company and was expected to perform like any other employee despite being the founder's daughter.
Return to Lebanon & Public Life
After returning to Lebanon, Mona Pharaon became increasingly involved in social and civic life as her husband entered politics. Michel Pharaon was elected Member of Parliament for Achrafieh, marking the beginning of a new chapter of public engagement for the family. During election campaigns and political activities, Mona played a supportive role in organizing events, community outreach, and social engagement.
